The Back Bay Chorale, opens its 36th season with a concert featuring music from Italy – music for the Cathedral, concert hall and opera house. Ildebrando Pizzetti's Messa Di Requiem (1922) is one of the marvels of the early 20th Century a cappella repertoire. Steeped in Gregorian chant and the rich polyphonic traditions of the 16th Century, Pizzetti weaves these influences with a late Romantic – specifically Italian – sound world. Elegant concert works and rousing opera choruses by Verdi, Rossini and Mascagni complete this dramatic evening of spectacular music.
