Rumors about Paterson's future abound in Albany
(2010-02-09)
(WBFO) - The State Capitol is abuzz about Governor David Paterson's political future.

Rumors have been circulating for several days now about Paterson's personal conduct and whether his resignation is imminent. The Governor's office went so far as to release a statement Monday saying he is not resigning. The statement characterizes the rumors as "absolutely false."

On The Capitol Pressroom on WBFO, Albany reporter Jimmy Vielkind (Albany Times-Union)said the official response from the governor's office has given voice to story, presenting a challenge of sorts to journalists covering state government.

"We just talked to Malcolm Smith (State Senate President) in the hallway, and he just said the fact people would pass these rumors is a detriment to the state as a whole," Vielkind said. "So, if we're all talking about whether the governor is going to resign, we're not talking about the budget or any of the business that is before the state right now."

Paterson has said he plans to run in this year's gubernatorial election. But polls show State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who has been quiet about his plans, has much more support and more money in his campaign treasury. © Copyright 2010, WBFO
