Forum Explores Challenges Facing Educators
(2008-09-13)
(WBFO) - The chancellor for the State Board of Regents was in Buffalo Friday morning for a panel discussion on how to improve schools in Western New York.

Robert Bennett joined the head of the Buffalo Schools, as well as administrators from the suburbs, charter and Catholic schools to talk about the challenges facing all of them. They fielded questions from an audience of educators, business and community leaders.

The overriding concern was the disparity in performance among city and suburban districts. Bennett says people must be willing to revamp the educational system to level the playing field.

Bennett says there needs to be a regional approach to education. And he says tenure for teachers and administrators should be eliminated and replaced with accountability. © Copyright 2009, WBFO
