Kids Voting Western New York converged on 12 Buffalo Public Schools Thursday looking for teens old enough to vote. The voting registration effort kicked off at Hutch Tech High School.
University at Buffalo President John Simpson and Schools Superintendent James Williams teamed up to tell students that this is an historic election year. Simpson encouraged those turning 18 to register and vote to become part of the democratic process.
Superintendent Williams says if students want to succeed as adults and survive in a new economy, they must be aware of the issues and vote.
The Kids Voting Western New York campaign works to educate students at an early age about civics. Some Hutch Tech students eagerly gathered around a table in their school library to register to vote. Even some 17-year olds pre-registered. Darius Lewis of Buffalo won't be 18 until next year, but he is already excited about registering to be a future voter.
Lewis says he is excited about this year's presidential election. He says students are interested and intrigued about voting.
