Election 2008
McCain May Focus on Nat'l Security, Obama on the Economy
BUFFALO, NY
(WBFO) -
Republicans will likely focus on national security while Democrats will address economic issues in the presidential campaign, according to University of Buffalo Assistant Professor of Political Science Joshua Dyck.
"The Republican Party will talk about the economy, but they'll only talk about it in terms of tax cuts. Then, they'll switch and say that the most important issue in this election is national security... that's an issue they own, that they poll well on," Dyck said.
"The Republicans want this election to be about national security, even though the No. 1 issue that keeps coming up is the economy," he added.
Republican's focus on national security could provide an opening for Democrats and Barack Obama to win voters by emphasizing economic troubles, Dyck said. © Copyright 2009, WBFO
