Judge Wants National Indian Gaming Commission to Close Casino
(2008-08-27)
Citizens for a Better Buffalo attorney Richard Lippes
(WBFO) - U-S District Court Judge William Skretny upheld his July ruling that gambling at the temporary Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino is illegal.

But the judge is stopping short of ordering the Seneca Nation of Indians to close down their city casino.

Skretny issued his much anticipated decision the casino yesterday.

Judge Skretny is not ordering a shut down of the Buffalo casino. Instead, the judge is directing the National Indian Gaming Commission to close it down.

Casino opponents say they are celebrating a court victory. Citizens for a Better Buffalo attorney Richard Lippes says the gaming commission has no choice but to shut down the casino. Lippes says the judge is following the law.

The Seneca's say they expect the U-S Justice Department to file an appeal. Seneca Nation Treasurer Kevin Seneca says for now the casino will stay open.
