A new federal grant will be available to Weed and Seed communities
(2008-09-18)
(wbaa) - A new federal grant has been awarded to the United Way of Greater Lafayette and the area Weed and Seed program.

Low-income families and individuals can participate in a program that will create a matched savings account.

The money can be put toward the purchase of a new house in Weed and Seed communities or Ivy Tech programs.

Lafayette's United Way Executive Director is James Taylor. He says this grant is good for individuals and the area as a whole.

Taylor says participants will also receive support through financial counselors and social and human service providers.

He says applications will be accepted beginning in January of next year.

The grant lasts five years and totals $128,750.
