Eliminating property taxes in Indiana considered
(2008-09-12)
(wbaa) - An interim legislative committee will hear from the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance next month.

The focus will be on trending and property assessment, and whether the state needs a uniform system for all counties.

It's part of the panel's work on property tax reforms.

Lawmakers already have taken testimony on totally eliminating the levy on residential land.

State Senator Brandt Hershman thinks it's good to examine all sides of the issue, but says eliminating property taxes will be difficult.

Overall, the Wheatfield Republican says he's hearing positive feedback from residents who have seen their property taxes lowered.
