Lafayette tunnel project underway
(2008-09-10)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
A multi-million dollar tunnel project is underway in Lafayette. Construction crews have dug 40-feet of the two-thousand foot length.
A nearly half-mile long, ten-foot wide pipe will be installed from the Pearl River Lift Station near First and Chestnut Streets, run along Second Street, and come out at Riehle Plaza.
It will hold one-point-three million gallons of water to prevent raw sewage from flowing into the Wabash River during heavy rain.
Water Pollution Control Superintendent Brad Talley says $18.5 million project should be completed by September 2009.
