Purdue hosts N. Colorado in season opener WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (wbaa) - The Purdue football team opens the season this weekend at home.

The Boilermakers face the Bears of Northern Colorado with 13 starters returning from last year.

Wide Receiver Brandon Whittington is coming off foot surgery earlier this year, which required putting a screw in the fractured bone.

He says it took him a little longer to recover than he thought, but thinks he feels as good as he did before the injury.

Quarterback and Heisman Trophy hopeful Curtis Painter says it would be great to set some school and Big Ten records this season, but that's not what he's thinking about.
