IN offers free college prep test for some students
(2008-09-04)
(wbaa) - Indiana high school sophomores and juniors may take a college prep test for free.

The state is offering a free PSAT test to students in an effort to boost SAT scores.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed says those who take the practice exam score better on the SAT, on average about 250-points, compared to those who don't take it.

She says Indiana will spend no more than $1.8 million on the program, after negotiating a lower per test rate.

The cost is expected to be covered by savings achieved from changes to the state's assessment system.

October 15th is the next PSAT exam. Students have to register by September 24th.
