Panel to review domestic violence deaths
(2008-09-02)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
Tippecanoe County's new Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team could save lives. Danielle Gaylord is the director of the YWCA's Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program, and an organizer of the group.
She says the team will investigate domestic violence deaths and try to determine what is missing from current procedure.
The 15-member panel includes police, domestic violence survivors, medical practitioners and judges.
Gaylord says the team will be able to use court documents and family information to review the cases.
The group will meet for training on September 11th where members will learn how to identify a suicide or homicide as a direct result of domestic violence. © Copyright 2009, wbaa
