Tippecanoe Co. proposed juvenile justice center cost lowered
(2008-09-02)
(wbaa) - The cost of building a proposed juvenile justice center in Tippecanoe County continues to decrease.

The latest estimate puts the price at about $17.3 million. That is down nearly $300,000 from a few months ago.

The county council will vote next month on the latest project price, so architects can continue drawing construction documents.

To save money longterm, engineers are making things energy efficient, such as the air-to-air recovery system.

The county hopes to award bids for the project in December, so construction can begin in January.

To build the juvenile justice center on a 25 acre site next to the county jail the Board of Zoning Appeal must give its approval. A vote is scheduled for next month on that.
