Tippecanoe County violating EPA mandate
(2008-08-20)
(wbaa) - Tippecanoe County is one of 19 counties throughout the state not complying with new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards for soot particles.

According to the new EPA requirement, particles can be no larger than 2.5 micrometers. That is about one-30th the diameter of human hair.

The particles can cause respiratory problems in children and the elderly.

About 200 counties in 25 states have also violated the new standard, according to the EPA.
