New award honors Indiana authors

Authors with Indiana ties are eligible for cash prizes.The inaugural Indiana Authors Award is designed to recognize the accomplishments of writers who were born in the state, or who have lived here for at least five years.
Organizer Emily Hankley Berger says prizes will be awarded in three different categories: National Author, Regional Author, and Emerging Author. Prizes total more than $20,000.
Each winning author's Indiana hometown public library also will receive a grant of $2,500 from The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation.
Winners will be honored at a banquet in September.
