A $105 million grant from the National Science Foundation will allow Purdue to create a new center focused on earthquake engineering. It will be headquarters for a network of 14-research equipment sites and the earthquake engineering community through new cyberinfrastructure.
Scientists also will be able to use a computer hub to run models and hypothetical scenarios.
Civil Engineering Professor and Center Director Julio Ramirez says the new information gained through research and sharing will hopefully improve building codes and save lives.
Also included in the grant proposal is the creation of an academy.
Engineering educators and technology specialists with the center will help preK through 12th grade teachers better serve their students.
