Purdue prof work could clean oil with just water
(2009-08-31)
(wbaa) - Cleaning an oil stain could be as easy as wiping the surface with water. That's the idea behind a Purdue scientist's invention.

Jeff Youngblood is an associate professor of Materials Engineering. He's working on a surface coating that attracts water and repels oil.

Recent findings were presented this month at the American Chemical Society's conference, to get feedback from peers and gauge interest from industry.

Youngblood says the coatings also prevent fogging on such things as windows, mirrors and underwater goggles or scuba masks.
