A collaborative research effort between Purdue and Mount Sinai School of Medicine backs up the claim red wine could help prevent Alzheimer's Disease. The research team found the amount of polyphenols from grapeseed extract that can reach a rat's brain is as much as 200% higher after consecutive days of feeding, as compared to the first.
This contrasts to previous experiments which absorption was measured after single or sporadic doses. Those studies found a very little, if any, amount of polyphenols reached brain tissues.
Scientists liken it to eating an apple a day, rather than a case of apples over two days, once a month.
Polyphenols are compounds found in the skins and seeds of grapes, thought to prevent the formation of a protein, which creates the plaque in the brain that causes Alzheimer's disease.
