WL joining statewide medical trust
(2009-11-02)
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The city of West Lafayette is joining the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns medical trust. The move means huge savings on health insurance for the city and its employees.
Lafayette joined the trust in September and is expecting to save roughly $1.5 million.
West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis says officials were expecting a double-digit percentage increase in costs, but the I-ACT partnership brings the number down to a single digit.
He says the money the city is saving through the trust will be used to fund wellness programs for employees. That should keep them healthy and further bring down future healthcare costs.
