Purdue hosts Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (wbaa) - The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is holding one of its major forums at Purdue this week.

The International Manufacturing Science and Engineering Conference features the latest research in the field and presentations by industry leaders.

Purdue Mechanical Engineering Professor Yung Shin is one of the event organizers.

He says without manufacturing, items such as appliances or clothing could not be massed produced.

The conference will cover topics from advances in manufacturing biomedical devices to aircraft engines. There also is a student design contest, which will be judged by industry experts.

Shin says Purdue was able to host the conference, because it's recognized as one of the leading research universities in manufacturing.

The event runs through Wednesday and includes tours of several companies in the Lafayette area, including Subaru of Indiana Automotive.
