New study shows property tax caps lowered homeowners' bills
(2009-10-05)
(wbaa) - Most Hoosiers are paying less in property taxes, according to a new report.

Purdue Agricultural Economist Larry DeBoer says it's a result of property tax caps.

He says the average decrease is 3% over the past two-years for homeowners.

But Indiana farmers are paying an average 11% more, while property taxes for businesses rose 18% when comparing 2007 to 2009.

Those groups will see some relief as more tax caps will be put in place next year.

However, local units of government are preparing for a loss of revenue.
