Illiana Expressway feasibility study unveiled
(2009-09-24)
(wbaa) - Construction on a highway linking Interstates 65 and 57 could begin in the next decade.

A feasibility study was unveiled Wednesday, which calls for a 25 to 30 mile Illiana Expressway at a cost of $1 billion.

It would run between southern Lake County into Illinois and relieve congestion on Interstate 80-94.

State Senator Sue Landske is chair of the review committee and thinks most people support it, citing the growing population south of Gary and Chicago.

She says more in-depth studies should be conducted.

Currently, there are three options for the path of the proposed expressway. One just north of Cedar Lake, one just south of Cedar Lake and one through the southside of Lowell.
