Lawmakers considering changes to IN gambling
(2009-09-14)
(wbaa) - State lawmakers are gathering information about possible gambling legislation.

The interim Gaming Study Committee heard about moving Gary riverboat casinos to another location, and a possible referendum to allow gaming in Steuben County.

The Casino Association of Indiana will present information in October on repealing the admission tax and increase the gaming tax.

State Representative Trent Van Haaften says the $80-million a year in revenue should not be eliminated, but the admission tax may need to be altered.

He says when the tax was created, Indiana riverboats were required to cruise every hour and there was not as much repeat customer traffic in a day.
