Lafayette's Salvation Army starts up its red kettle campaign
(2009-11-20)
(wbaa) - Red Kettles will soon be all over the Lafayette area.

The Salvation Army campaign has been around for more than 100 years.

Major Nelson De La Vergne is with the local citadel. He says the charity is hoping to raise $325,000 by Christmas Eve.

De La Vergne says the Salvation Army may struggle a bit because the United Way was unable to reach its overall $5 million goal.

He expects about a third of the charity's target to come in through the kettles and the rest by walk-in or mail-in donations.

Bell ringers will be at various locations throughout the Lafayette area such as Hobby Lobby or the Tippecanoe Mall.

Anyone who wants to volunteer should call the Salvation Army.
