United Way falls short of goal
(2009-11-20)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
Nearly two dozen Lafayette-area non-profit agencies are facing significant budget cuts, after the United Way's 2009 fundraising campaign fell short. The United Way had hoped to bring in $5 million this year.
But the fundraising effort wrapped up yesterday roughly $540,000 short of that goal.
The money raised goes to 23 Lafayette-area non-profit agencies, including the Hanna Community Center and the Community and Family Resource Center.
The shortfall means these organizations are facing a nearly 11% decline in funding for 2010.
This is the first time in 35 years the United Way of Greater Lafayette has not met its goal.
