LUM is prepping for the upcoming legislative session
(2009-11-18)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
Indiana lawmakers will begin their session in a few months and Lafayette Urban Ministry is crafting a legislative agenda.Social Justice Director Patti O'Callaghan says LUM is seeking a child and dependent care state tax credit to supplement the federal government's.
O'Callaghan contends the federal money that the state issues is not enough to cover those costs and many families must choose between working and paying for child care.
She says Indiana is one of only 14 states without a state credit for child and dependent care.
O'Callaghan says LUM also is keeping an eye on what the state does next concerning the problems surrounding the privatization of social services. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
