Lafayette cancels sidewalk contract LAFAYETTE, IN (wbaa) - Lafayette officials have rescinded a contract with a company replacing sidewalks along 18th Street.

The Board of Works cancelled the agreement with Brazil, Indiana-based Artistic Construction Tuesday.

City officials say the company left large holes unmarked and metal spikes unsecured at the worksite.

There were also allegations the company failed to pay some of its workers.

Artistic will be paid about $55,000 for the work it has completed.

The original contract was for roughly $88,000.

The city has entered into a $45,000 contract with Lafayette-based Dixon Construction to finish replacing sidewalks on 18th Street from Beck Lane to Teal Road.
