WL ice rink set to open next week WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (wbaa) - The director of the West Lafayette Parks Department says weather permitting, the Tapawingo Park ice skating rink will open the day after Thanksgiving.

Joe Payne says they hope to start making the ice this weekend.

The city had to purchase a rollout mat to place on top of the rink, after several leaks were discovered in the pipes underneath the cement.

Payne says it will allow the facility to open this year while officials consider a permanent solution to the problem.

The rollout mat cost $60,000.

Payne says the city will get some of that money back if it is traded in at the end of the season.
