Friends of Westside schools PAC is raising money
(2010-02-09)
(wbaa) - The Friends of West Lafayette Community Schools political action committee is preparing to campaign for the district's tax referendum.

PAC Chair Sonya Margerum says the committee has raised about $40,000 and is planning activities to bring in more money.

She hopes the group will collect another $20,000.

Margerum says the PAC will send out fliers, cold call residents and produce TV ads.

The corporation is asking residents within its boundaries to approve a property tax levy of no more than 43 cents per $100 assessed value.

School officials estimate the hike could bring in as much as $3.5 million every year for the next seven years.

The question will appear on the May 4 primary ballot.
