LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The Kresge Foundation is offering $375,000 to Lafayette Urban Ministry if it can meet its Campaign for the Future goal.LUM wants to raise $2.8 million for capital improvements and new or expanding programs. It's collected about 70% of the total already.
Honorary Campaign Chairperson Patty Jischke says the challenge grant should encourage more people to donate to the effort and help LUM lift people out of poverty.
LUM Executive Director Joe Micon says the additional money has to be used for specific things, such as construction costs for capital improvements and staff and materials for new programs. Micon hopes to end the campaign within a year.
The overall campaign will help fund 12 new or expanded initiatives, including financial management and small business start-up classes, after-school opportunities for children, a new Youth Program Center and an ID Clinic for the homeless.
