Purdue forms steering committee to look for cost savings, efficiencies
(2009-11-20)
(wbaa) - A Purdue steering committee will explore ways to meet the university's strategic goals in the face of uncertain economic conditions.

University officials say assuming a flat-lined state appropriation level and no increase in general education fees, Purdue is facing a shortfall of $70 million in the next biennium to sustain its current initiatives.

Treasurer Al Diaz and Provost Randy Woodson will chair the steering committee.

Diaz says the group will look for cost savings in all areas of the university, including academic programs, administrative operations, and employee compensation.

He is encouraging the campus community to make suggestions online at purdue.edu/sustaining.

Diaz says similar reviews are underway at two-thirds of the nation's public universities.
