WL officials expect grease deliveries by Thanksgiving
(2009-11-02)
(wbaa) - West Lafayette Waste Water Utility Director David Henderson says the facility could begin accepting grease by the end of this month.

The city council approved a measure that allows grease haulers from outside the city's limits to deliver waste to the utility's digester.

Food and human waste increases methane gas released at the digester, which fires the micro turbines at the plant.

Henderson says he expects about 50,000 gallons per week, but first city officials must set a tipping fee.

The utility also will begin accepting food grease from residents.

Henderson says the public is welcome to pick up free gallon jugs from city hall, the recycling center or the treatment facility.

He says once they are filled, they can be dropped off at the utility and people can get another.
