Public hearings about teacher licensing changes draw critics
(2009-11-02)
INDIANAPOLIS, IN
(wbaa) -
The Indiana Department of Education's proposed changes in teacher and school administrator licensing are receiving mixed reviews during public hearings. The proposal would place caps on pedagogy and require more classes in a teacher's content area. It also provides an alternative route for licensing.
Butler University associate education dean Deb Lichlighter says quality will likely suffer under the new rules.
But those in favor of the changes say people who have experience outside of the traditional education channels must be given a chance.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett is expected to make his case for the changes to the Indiana Education Roundtable Tuesday. © Copyright 2009, wbaa
