IN health commissioner "frustrated" by delay in H1N1 vaccines
(2009-10-29)
(wbaa) - Indiana's health commissioner says the state has received only about half of the H1N1 vaccines it was expecting by this time.

Doctor Judy Monroe says Centers for Disease Control officials told her more vaccines are coming, but no one can say for sure just how many or when.

She says statewide, doctor's offices, emergency rooms and health clinics are reporting historical highs in the percentage of patients with flu-like symptoms.

Monroe says while the delay is frustrating, Hoosiers need to continue to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs, and stay home when sick.

According to state officials, all of the specimens received by the health department this week tested positive for the swine flu and 39 school districts have absenteeism rates at or above 20% -- the level when experts suggest closing a school.
