Caterpillar Announces More Company-wide Layoffs LAFAYETTE, IN (wbaa) - More Caterpillar layoffs will affect employees at the Lafayette Large Engine Center.

Officials announced Monday morning another 2,500 company-wide jobs will be shed.

A little more than 100 workers in Lafayette will be affected by the decision, but rolling layoffs will include an additional 985 employees.

Officials are offering severance packages to affected employees, but there is no specific breakdown according to location.

The company has cut about 34,000 full-time and contracted workers globally during the downturn, but have been able to bring back roughly 500 employees so far. More could return depending on demand. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
