Federal Stimulus Money Going to IN Energy Conservation, Weatherization Projects
(2009-08-27)
(wbaa) - More than $100 million in federal stimulus funds will improve the energy efficiency of low-income Hoosier households.

The U.S. Department of Energy signed off on Indiana's plan to use $132 million for conservation and weatherization efforts. Added to the current money set aside for the state's energy assistance program, more than 30,000 low-income homes will see improvements.

Up to $5,000 will be available for each household. The exact amount will be determined after an energy audit.

The Area Four Agency on Aging and Community Action is receiving about $1.5 million to help people in Tippecanoe and Clinton counties.

Community Action Program of Western Indiana, serving Benton, Fountain, and Warren counties, will receive a little more than $1 million.

Twenty million dollars will go to the Indiana Builders Association. The group is focusing its effort in three dozen counties, including Carroll, Cass, Montgomery and White.

About $55 million will be spent between now and March, the remainder of the stimulus money will be spent beginning next spring.
