Ice Rink in need of repairs
(2009-08-18)
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
West Lafayette will spend as much as $100,000 to fix the ice skating rink at Tapawingo Park. The city's Redevelopment Commission has approved the expenditure from the Levee TIF district.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent Joe Payne says there are several leaks in the coolant piping that is embedded in the concrete.
Payne says instead of ripping up the concrete and replacing the existing pipes, the city will buy a rollout mat containing tubing that is placed on top of the rink.
He says this technology is being used across the country for seasonal rinks and special events.
Payne hopes to have the work done in time to open the rink the day after Thanksgiving.
