LSC seeking state's guidance for struggling school
(2009-07-16)
(wbaa) - Thirteen Indiana schools are faced with possible restructuring at the end of the next school year, and one is in the Lafayette School Corporation.

Miller Elementary is failing to make Adequate Yearly Progress under benchmarks set by No Child Left Behind.

LSC Superintendent Ed Eiler and the leaders of the other struggling schools met with State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett Thursday.

Eiler says they wanted to express their concerns about the four restructuring options, which all come with a set of problems.

Restructuring allows corporations to replace staff, create a charter school, bring in a private firm or close the school entirely.

Eiler says state and federal education officials are expected to meet next week to work on criteria that would satisfy restructuring.
