Purdue increasing tuition and fees 5% for most students
(2009-07-02)
(wbaa) - Purdue officials plan to boost the cost of tuition about 5% for most students in each of the next two years.

But resident students who return as sophomore in the Fall of 2010 will pay about eleven-percent more.

That's because of a new $500 fee, which the university will start assessing on new students to accomplish the goals of its strategic plan.

Provost Randy Woodson says even with that type of increase, Purdue remains a bargain among Big Ten schools.

Wood son says the university is not just raising tuition and fees to make up for a loss of state dollars.

He says some 150 positions have been cut, mostly through attrition and the elimination of some graduate student positions.

A tuition and fees hearing to take public comment is set for July 13th.
