LSC considers options for struggling Miller Elementary
(2009-05-27)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The Lafayette School Corporation is considering restructuring Miller Elementary.Due to poor I-STEP scores, school officials will likely be forced to choose from one of four options.
Those include replacing staff that may have attributed to the bad results, turning it into a charter school, bringing in a private management firm to turn it around or closing it entirely.
Superintendent Ed Eiler says options may also include adjusting current staff to other schools, or reworking grade levels.
The board plans to open the discussion up to parents to allow for alternative ideas.
Officials will likely have the decision by the fall, but any changes will not take effect until the 2010-2011 school year.
