City of Lafayette cutting six positions
(2009-04-17)
(wbaa) - Five Lafayette city employees have lost their job due to the recession.

Mayor Tony Roswarski says he had to eliminate the five and another vacant position, because revenues are down and probably won't pick up for a couple years.

Those jobs are: Health and Safety Coordinator, Payroll Coordinator, Administrative Coordinator, and Data Entry Clerk at city hall. In the Parks Department: Office Manager/Secretary and Accounting Clerk.

He says the move will save about $319,000 annually.

Roswarski says other city projects and equipment purchases are on hold because of the economy.

He says if property tax revenue is delayed again this year or if the General Assembly makes implementing tax caps retroactive to January, the city will be in more financial trouble.

Roswarski says as of now, he does not expect to cut any city services.
