Endocyte enters Phase II Clinical Trial for cancer drug therapy
(2009-02-19)
(wbaa) - A West Lafayette-based biotech company is moving forward with a new drug treatment for cancer. Endocyte's EC145 hopes to make treatments less toxic and more effective.

President Ron Ellis says a phase-2 study is enrolling ovarian cancer patients who did not respond to the standard treatment.

EC145 is a targeted drug conjugate, which combines the medicine to folate. Ellis says the study also will test the predictive medicine EC20. It is an imaging agent designed to identify tumors over-expressing the folate receptor.

Ellis says this is the first time this kind of approach has been tested in this kind of study. He says results could be known as early as a year from now.
