Imagination Station closing
(2009-02-17)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
After more than a decade of offering hands-on science, space and technology exhibits, Lafayette's Imagination Station is closing. The facility opened in October, 1996, offering children an up-close experience with science.
The Imagination Station board announced a major overhaul nearly a year ago. Members hoped to shift from the original space technology focus to one which included science, technology, engineering and math, also known as the STEM fields.
The facility also needed a new executive director, after the post had been vacant for several years.
But a news release pointed to a constant struggle paying bills and difficulty maintaining the facility and exhibits as the reason for closing.
The board of directors will remain active and encourage other organizations to submit proposals to acquire the building, displays and/or supplies. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
