Vote Centers possible for all IN counties
(2009-02-09)
(wbaa) - More Indiana counties could conduct elections under the vote center system.

A bill moving through the state senate would allow individual counties to decide if designated polling places should be a thing of the past.

The proposal requires at least one vote center per 10,000 active voters.

While Tippecanoe County had more vote center sites than suggested, Clerk Linda Phillips says counties could use fewer, depending on projected turnout.

The bill now goes to the full Senate for consideration.

If it becomes law, it would be an expansion of a pilot program started two-years ago in Tippecanoe and Wayne counties.

The measure also would move municipal elections to even-numbered years beginning in 2014.
