(2008-09-15)
INDIANA
(wbaa) -
I-Step testing begins at schools statewide this week. Students will be spending twice as much time as usual taking the tests this year as the state begins its transition from fall to spring exams.
The I-Step will be given in the fall and spring this school year to students in grades 3-8.
Beginning next year, the test will only be given in the spring.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Suellen Reed says the I-Step is designed to review what students should already know.
High school Graduation Qualifying Exam testing will also begin this week.
Incoming high school sophomores will be the last group of students to take the current G-Q-E that covers English and Math skills through grade nine.
Incoming freshmen will be the first group of students to take the new G-Q-E which consists of Algebra One and English Ten exams taken after students complete the corresponding course.
