No new ambulances for Tippecanoe County
(2008-08-12)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The Tippecanoe County Council has said no to buying new ambulances. Councilors say since the hospital already takes care of operational costs for the 911 service, it makes sense for them to also pay for five new vehicles at about $168,000 each.
Council member Andy Gutwein says the cost must be on the shoulders of the users.
But supporters of the purchase call it an investment in the county's health and well-being, and it shouldn't come down to dollars and cents.
The mandated mileage limit on emergency vehicles is 150,000 miles. By the end of this year, most of the county's fleet will be at or past that maximum. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
