Lafayette area charity receives donations
(2008-07-15)
(wbaa) - The 23rd annual Hunger Hike is closer to its fundraising goal after donations from Lafayette area businesses.

The charity event has a target of $70,000. The money raised will go to help local children and families in need.

Right now, the hike's organizers only have about $20,000, but Vectren and Innervision Advanced Medical Imaging both donated one thousand dollars to the cause.

Joe Micon is the executive director of the Lafayette Urban Ministry, the group that spearheads the event. He says the need this year is high because of the increased cost of living.

Micon says he expects about 500 people to participate in the event.

The Hike will be on September 21st, and more information is available at www.hungerhike.org.
