City of Lafayette starts budget process
(2008-07-02)
(wbaa) - A delay in getting property tax bills out in Tippecanoe County may cause Lafayette to borrow money.

Mayor Tony Roswarski says he does not want to, because fees and interest associated with borrowing hurts the taxpayer in the long run.

He says an early distribution of revenue from the state last month should help the city's cash flow, but the county has not divided the approximately $12 million it received.

Roswarski says if borrowing is necessary, it will be as little as possible.

He says the city has begun budgeting for next year, but is going slowly because the effects of recent property tax reforms are still being figured.
