Tippecanoe Co. narrows center design to two options
(2008-06-04)
(wbaa) - The Tippecanoe County Commission and Council will hear more information about operating a juvenile justice center next month.

They also could choose one of two designs for the facility.

The options include only a detention center, and a detention center with room for alternative programs, with construction costs ranging from $16 million to $18 million.

Commissioner K.D. Benson says even though they're waiting another three weeks, she still thinks they can get bids for the project before the end of the year.

Youth Services Executive Director Rebecca Humphrey says the goal is to keep annual operating costs under $1.9 million.

The center will not include court services, because of the additional $6 million cost.

The next meeting of the commission and council is scheduled for July 2nd. County leaders hope to hear from the public then, before finalizing their decision.
