Bubble Fusion Inquiry Prompts More Investigation
(2007-09-10)
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
A formal investigation is pending against a Purdue professor over allegations of research misconduct. A university panel has found several issues merit further examination regarding the work of Nuclear Engineering Professor Rusi Taleyarkhan.
Several researchers have questioned his claim of achieving nuclear fusion by blasting sound waves into bubbles, because they cannot reproduce the work.
Vice President for University Relations Joe Bennett says the inspector general of the Office of Naval Research is reviewing the inquiry panel's findings. The O.N.R. is a sponsor of Taleyarkhan's work.
Bennett says once the inspector general is satisfied with the results, the university will appoint an investigation committee. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
